The last weekend in February (2/27-3/1), presents a special opportunity for our congregation as both our Family Retreat as well as the Adult Retreat will be held at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) Camp in Oconomowoc, WI. Our family programming will take place in the Soref building and will feature music, crafts, ga-ga (Israeli dodgeball), worship, schmoozing, sledding, gym time and study of the Torah portion in creative and experiential ways. Our Adult Retreat participants will use the lodge as their home base. Programming will feature study, music, worship, discussion, conversation and relaxation. Rabbi Mizrahi will spend time with both groups, and we will come together as one community for Havdalah on Saturday evening.
A retreat weekend at camp provides a unique opportunity to celebrate Shabbat with your extended Or Shalom Family, building relationships with one another and connecting more fully with our Jewish selves. Participating in a retreat creates a space in our lives separate from our normal schedule, allowing for self-reflection; and it’s a wonderful way to meet new friends within our Or Shalom community. Give yourself (or your family) a special gift this year and register for the winter retreat. Our goal is for every member to be able to attend a retreat. Our newly established Zena Singer Retreat Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships for families who may need some help covering the fees. (Please contact me for details.)
Please register for the Adult or Family Retreat by January 15.
After January 15, fees increase by $25 per family!
Box Tops for Education + Bake Sales = More iPads for the School!
Box Tops for Education makes a HUGE difference. Thank you to Mia Hirschel for bringing this program to Or Shalom. We just received a check of $382 from submissions of Box Tops! Combined with our bake sales (organized by Jennifer Leventhal), we purchased two more iPads for the school. We used our iPads in December’s family school class for group presentations on King Saul, King David and King Solomon. It is awesome to use new technology to help us in our studies of events thousands of years old! Please keep clipping those Box Tops and deposit them in the bin by the school entrance.
