Message from the President
Thank you to each and every one of you for being part of Or Shalom. Thank you for the privilege of allowing our congregation to be part of your lives. Because of you, we are vibrant, thriving and strong. As a community, we have gained strength from each other during good and bad times, during extreme joy and profound sadness, and we will continue to support and celebrate with one another as our life journeys continue.
I am so proud of our congregation, and the warmth and kindness you have provided to Rabbi Margolis and his family. As I write this article, Rabbi Margolis has been with us for only 30 days. From his first service on July 3, he has fully embraced our community. Already, he has had a chance to get to know many of you at the various coffees, committee meetings, events and services throughout the summer. Please introduce yourself, and engage in conversation with Rabbi Margolis to share your feelings and thoughts about Or Shalom. Along with Rabbi Margolis, the board and staff are all committed to ensuring that the current and future needs of our congregation are met.
During our community conversations, we learned that many of our congregants would like to make Shabbat worship more of a priority in their lives. Many of our congregants have shared their vision for prayer, song and spirituality at our Community Conversations. I hope each of you will embrace Shabbat and attend services more regularly. At the end of a long and sometimes frustrating workweek, this one-hour service can be a source of peace, strength and renewal. Rabbi Margolis and Cantorial Soloist Rhonda Wehner are blending familiar and new liturgy, and your feedback is important. Your input is important in every area of congregational life – perhaps now is the perfect time for you to revisit your level of involvement with our congregation.
The High Holidays are fast approaching. I am filled with hope and excitement for the future of Or Shalom and look forward to working closely with Rabbi Margolis as he provides leadership, guidance and vision.
Wishing you and your families a very happy and healthy New Year.
