On February 11, the Board of Trustees of our congregation approved the contract for our next rabbi, Ari Margolis. On behalf of our congregation, I want to thank Alan Pearlman, the Rabbinic Search Committee Chair, and all the members of the committee—Eric Berman, Michele Coleman, Jay Goldberg, Ralph Hodosh, Norma Kahn, Denise Kaplan, Jeff Kruger, Nicole Miller, Matt Rosenblum and Dale Truding. Our search committee listened to all of your hopes, dreams and concerns through a survey that had an impressive response rate of over 50%, as well as 17 targeted community conversations. The information you shared was critical in the search process, and we thank you for your participation. The committee members read countless resumes and personal statements, conducted Skype and in-person interviews, checked reference upon reference, and arranged for site visits. Throughout the process, they were guided by Rabbi Henkin, Director of Placement at the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR). Their task was monumental, and they sacrificed family and work time to ensure that our next rabbi would meet the needs of our congregation and vision with us for our future. I am proud of their work and extremely grateful for their dedication and commitment to Or Shalom.
Rabbi Ari Margolis will join our Or Shalom family in July, becoming the fourth rabbi to lead our congregation. Our spiritual leaders, together with our board and congregants, have helped Or Shalom grow into the warm, welcoming congregation that we are today. I look forward to working with Rabbi Margolis as we begin a new chapter in the life of our congregation.
We feel blessed that Rabbi Mizrahi has been with us during this challenging year. She will continue to guide and help us prepare for this summer’s transition by working closely with the board, staff and Rabbi Margolis, as we continue to move forward together. This is a very exciting time for Congregation Or Shalom, and I appreciate the trust, support and confidence that our membership has shown in the leadership and staff of our congregation.
